The Cottage at Mackay’s is a special bolthole in the wonderfully wild North West tip of Scotland.

Located in Durness in a prime position a few minutes’ walk to the beach, village shop, local pubs and craft village, it really is convenient.

What to Expect

This coastal cottage oozes laidback loveliness. The muted décor, natural furnishing, and beautiful contemporary touches embody modern Highland living at its best, creating a space to kick back, relax and unwind.

The Cottage features a spacious open-plan kitchen and living space with a beautiful oak kitchen bench which doubles as a dining table. This self-catered property is perfect for a family getaway or retreat with friends. The Cottage has two double rooms, one twin room and two bathrooms. The place is perfect for any kind of adventure in the Far North. Fully equipped with a washer and dryer, wood-burning stove and a covered deck, the possibilities are endless.

Availability and Book

Before You Book

  • Weekly rental (7 nights) run from Saturday 5pm to Saturday 10am
  • 6 people maximum, two double rooms and one twin room
  • A £500 deposit secures your booking, the balance (i.e. full rental cost) is required 8 weeks prior to arrival. Payment can be made by bank transfer or card.
  • We are very dog friendly but we ask for a maximum of two dogs and we have a £50 per dog cleaning charge
  • Wood burning stove, a supply of condensed wood, free wifi, TV, wireless speaker, laundry, hairdryer, French press, stovetop espresso maker and a fully equipped kitchen. What more could you want?

  • The Cottage is cleaned down every week and there are no dry goods (coffee and tea etc.) included. We supply cleaning and paper products. Please see below about ordering food in advance and shopping local.
  • For reservations during winter months, we always advise the use of a 4×4 vehicle
  • There is ample private onsite parking

Although we are remote, we are very fortunate to have fantastic local meat & fish as well as an excellent village store. Our ethos is to support local and use what we have on hand – this really matters to us so we strongly encourage all our lovely guests to put their thinking heads on and shop local. We invite you to support it rather than ‘feeding the machine’ as we say. The Durness shop www.durnessshop.com will soon be accepting online orders but until then you can either call (+44)1971 511202 or e-mail orders@durnessshop.com with your shopping list. They will arrange it all and we will deliver it to the house for your arrival. Simply settle your account directly in-store during your stay.
